The Innovation Technologist is responsible for helping to execute new product opportunities by delivering high performing, innovative products that meet and support all core brands goals. The responsibilities will consist of interacting with colleagues, cross functional internal team members, suppliers, internal plant personnel, and co-packers to develop and complete projects including product improvement, line extensions, and innovation.

Responsibilities and tasks are written as follows:
Assist in the technical portion of the project development process from bench top through the scale-up and commercialization process.
Assist in the development of meat, protein and other food products to meet financial and nutritional targets within regulatory and safety program guidelines.
Assist in the organization and facilitation product tests in a range of environments including the Innovation Center Pilot Plant, production facilities, ingredient suppliers and co –packers while adhering to GMPs and location specific requirements (scheduling, protocols, and food safety) and assist other team members as needed.
Possess the ability to apply the scientific method to testing with an emphasis on data collection, interpretation and specification development.
Assist in the coordinating and conducting of product cuttings at the Innovation Center kitchen to objectively evaluate and compare formulations to control or existing products.
Interact with customers to develop, test and commercialize custom products.
Represent Smithfield and our family of brands professionally at industry functions and conferences.
Stay current with food ingredients, processing technology and immerging consumer packaged goods trends.

Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from a regionally accredited four-year college or university in Food Science, Animal Science, Culinary Training or related field required.
Experience with USDA Rules and Regulations.
Limited understanding of syndicated consumer data and basic knowledge of custom product driven research.
Willingness to learn about consumer insights and help translate them into finished products.
Creative and passionate about ideation and new product development.
Excellent planning and organizational skills with demonstrated multi-tasking and project management skills.
Ability to uphold regulatory, company, and customer standards.
May be required to travel (20-25%) and must be able to represent the company at conferences and product presentations.
Possess integrity and the desire to do quality work.
Ability to embrace a team culture and life-long learning.
Excellent communication skills; strong oral and written language skills.
Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office including but not limited to Outlook, Word, Excel, and Power Point.
Able to communicate at both a technical and non-technical level.
