The Senior Product Developer, Fresh will drive world class product development through the development of innovative and consumer driven new exclusive brand products as well as through leading a team of Product Developers. They will identify and leverage synergies amongst ingredients, suppliers and new developments. In addition, this person will support existing products by leading ongoing monitoring and reformulations as well as maintain accountability throughout the product development process from ideation to product launch formula/spec development and commercialization.
•Contribute to Exclusive Brands profitable growth and overall success, with focus on new offering innovation, and aligned with overall US Foods strategy •Serve as a product development subject matter expert to develop and implement strategies in assigned categories •Manage and develop a team of Product Developers •Lead continual improvements of PD processes; represent the PD Team in cross functional team meetings •Lead special projects and initiatives within the PD Team •Identify potential PD Educational Seminars and lead the organization and facilitation of training events •Provide an expert opinion and feedback on product sensory in assigned categories •Contribute to the definition of brand standards in regards to ingredient, nutritional and product attributes •Use strong technical expertise, portfolio analysis and insight to identify areas for innovation, claims/nutritional potential and improved profitability •Collaborate with Category Management, Marketing, FSQA, Regulatory, Legal, and other functions to drive project potential and assure aligned direction on priorities •Participate in the building of the Exclusive Brand Category Strategy in conjunction with Category Mgrs; directs concept development within agreed business and category strategies •Identifies and evaluates key vendors in conjunction with the Product Development & Category Teams; develops vendor strategies based upon current vendor strengths & weaknesses and long-term development requirements; builds effective relationship with the vendor community •Maintain solid technical and business understanding of the competitive set, and emerging technology to help identify gap or opportunity areas for technical point of difference in US Foods products •Develop best-in-class nutritional attributes, formulas and product and ingredient specifications that meet corporate, regulatory, and consumer/customer needs; ensure that brand integrity and brand strategies are maintained •Drive for specification ownership and proprietary advantage where applicable to protect investments and block competitive potential; understand and use technical intellectual property as a key business protector •Ensure that projects are delivered with the highest quality to the business on agreed timelines and within budget and are communicated with senior leadership and other stakeholders •Represent US Foods at Marketing events and promotions •Up to 20% overnight travel
•Education/Training: BS, Food Science or related field required. MS or PhD preferred. CCS (Certified Culinary Scientist by RCA) or other culinary experience/certification a plus •Related Experience: Minimum 8 years' related work experience in CPG, retail or foodservice. •Expertise in product development and new product innovation, with extensive Product Development/Food Science discipline; 2 years Project Management experience preferred.
