The Department of Animal and Food Sciences at Oklahoma State University invites applications for a 60% Extension, 40% research faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor. This position carries the expectation of excellence in Extension and research commensurate with the land grant mission of Oklahoma State University.
Position Description The successful candidate is expected to (a) develop Extension programming impactful to the meat industry of Oklahoma, including processing and manufacturing; (b) lead and contribute to existing programming in producer, youth, and consumer meat education; (c) collaborate with Extension educators and industry to create and enhance opportunities in meat science; (d) develop an applied or basic research program in their field of expertise; and (e) demonstrate ability to secure extramural funding.
The successful candidate will have opportunities to (a) serve industry organizations in Oklahoma and beyond; (b) work with industry partners to strengthen on campus relationships (c) contribute to other Departmental needs; (d) represent the Department at state, regional, and national meetings, and conferences. The successful candidate will be expected to collaborate in Extension and research with other faculty in the Department and the University as appropriate.
Qualifications A Ph.D. in Animal, Meat, or Food Science or other closely related field. Applicants must be committed to Extension programming. The candidate must have a strong background in meat processing with an understanding of fresh and processed meat quality. They must also have documented experience in scholarly activities in research. Preference will be given to individuals with previous Extension/outreach activities, strong oral and written communication skills, effective interpersonal skills with diverse audiences, and a record of successful collaboration in an academic environment.
Employment Conditions This position is to be filled by January 1, 2025, or as soon as a suitable candidate is identified. The position is an 11-month, tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Professor. Salary and benefits are competitive and based on qualifications and experience. Retirement and long-term disability, medical, dental and life insurance programs are available to employees. Continuation of this position is subject to performance, needs and available funding.
About the Department The Department of Animal and Food Sciences has more than 1100 undergraduate students, 65 M.S. and Ph.D. students, and 31 faculty. The department is home to nine undergraduate student organizations and seven competitive undergraduate teams. OSU is a comprehensive, land-grant research university that is nationally known for its teaching, research and outreach programs.
