Position Summary:
Western Texas College invites applications for the position of Assistant Meat Judging/Swine Show Team Coach to join our Athletics Division. This is an outstanding opportunity for a motivated, student-centered coach who is passionate about supporting student-athlete success while gaining meaningful hands-on experience in collegiate athletics. The Assistant Meat Judging/Swine Show Team Coach plays a vital role in supporting the recruitment, coaching, and development of student athletes. Working closely with the Head Meat Judging/Swine Show Team Coach, student-athletes, and college partners, the successful candidate will contribute to a culture that prioritizes student well-being, performance, and academic success.
This position may include the opportunity to serve as a Resident Advisor, which provides an additional stipend for the fall and spring semesters. This optional role offers additional leadership experience working with students in a residential setting while enhancing the overall compensation and professional development opportunities.
Total Compensation & Benefits:
Western Texas College offers a highly competitive total compensation package designed to provide financial stability, professional growth, and quality of life. Compensation includes: • Salary: $23,930 (10-month appointment) • College-provided housing with utilities included (estimated value: $9,000–$12,000 annually) • College-paid employee paid medical insurance (estimated value: $6,000–$10,000 annually) • Two months off during summer • Two weeks off during winter break This position offers a highly competitive total compensation package with an estimated annual value of $38,930 - $45,930, inclusive of salary, institution-provided housing, and comprehensive medical insurance.

This position offers: • Direct mentorship from experienced collegiate meat judging and swine show professionals • Opportunity to develop leadership skills and coaching experience • Hands-on experience in intercollegiate meat judging contests and livestock exhibitions • Active involvement in the college’s breeding swine program and agricultural operations • A supportive, student-centered campus culture • Meaningful opportunities to contribute to student-athlete success and institutional mission Primary Responsibilities • Assist with team practices, instruction, and contest preparation • Support management of the college’s breeding swine program and daily farm operations, including animal care and facility maintenance • Travel with students to intercollegiate meats judging contests, livestock shows, and related events • Coordinate practice opportunities at university meat laboratories, packing plants, and other facilities • Assist with recruiting agriculture students and team members • Provide tours of campus and agricultural facilities • Represent Western Texas College and competitive teams at recruiting and community events • Promote positive team culture, professionalism, and student development • Ensure compliance with institutional policies and competition guidelines • Perform other duties as assigned in support of the Meat Judging/Swine Show Team and Athletics Division
Work Schedule and Physical Requirements
• Requires a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and work indoors and outdoors in varying conditions • Requires standing and walking for extended periods, and lifting, carrying, and assisting with livestock operations (up to 50 pounds) • Requires ability to administer vaccinations and medications to swine
Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree required • Valid driver’s license required • Must be eligible to drive college vehicles in accordance with institutional policies
Preferred Characteristics
• Strong knowledge of the meats industry and contest formats • Experience raising or exhibiting swine • Strong interpersonal and communication skills • Demonstrated commitment to student-athlete development and success • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, team-oriented environment • Strong organizational and decision-making skills
