Job Purpose: To gain real world experience in the successful manufacturing of food products
Responsibilities:
- Work closely with product development scientists on a wide variety of value-added food projects (may require travel to other production facilities within the USA)
- Gain experience and apply knowledge of food science to the product development process
- Learn to operate a wide variety of food processing equipment
- Practice communication skills, use analytical techniques, and apply critical thinking skills
- Learn about product formulation and prepare prototypes in the lab/pilot plant for review by marketing, sales, operations and R&D
- Conduct process and product troubleshooting
- Test new ingredients and processes
Requirements:
- Must have completed two years of a Food Science major at the time of applying (i.e. Junior Status) or another related field (minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA strongly preferred)
- Demonstrated leadership skills are necessary for success in this position
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills
- Possess a strong work ethic and an entrepreneurial spirit
- Must be a Citizen or National of the United States, a lawful, permanent resident, or have authorization to work in the United States
- Applicants must not now, or any time in the future, require sponsorship for an employment visa
- This position will require access to and/or the utilization of a personal motor vehicle to get to and from the workplace
- Must be comfortable with the preparation and consumption of a variety of Hormel Foods Products which may include but not limited to pork, beef, chicken, turkey and nuts.
Location and Hours:
- Position is based out of our Planters Innovation Center in Northbrook, IL
- Internship is about 10 weeks, full time, approximately 40 hours per week, beginning late May to early August
Compensation/Benefits:
- Competitive wage
- The base pay range is $21 to $23 per hour; however, actual compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors including, but not limited to, job-related knowledge, skill set, level of experience, and specific office location
